POLYIMIDE SEALS & COMPONENTS

What are Polyimide Seals, Seats, & Bearings?
Polyimides represent a class of ultrahigh heat-resistant engineering thermoplastics designed for severe thermal, mechanical, and electrical environments. With outstanding resistance to harsh chemicals, excellent mechanical strength and dimensional stability, and the ability to maintain stiffness at high temperature, polyimide is a go-to material for seals, seats, and special applications across demanding industries.
Key Material & Thermal Properties of Polyimide
Polyimide has outstanding properties that present remarkable thermal, mechanical, and chemical resistance features. Here are some key material properties of polyimide:
- Extreme Thermal Stability: Virgin polyimides exhibit an exceptionally wide working temperature range: -450°F to +600°F [-268°C to +316°C].
- Mechanical Strength & Durability: Polyimide features a tensile strength of 20,100 psi [139 MPa], a high tensile modulus of 530,000 psi [3,650 MPa], low creep under load, outstanding wear resistance, and high toughness across a wide temperature range.
- Flame & Chemical Resistance: Polyimides possess inherent flame resistance. They demonstrate broad chemical resistance and high resistance to hydrolysis.
